The Ministry of Environment is responsible for administering all Crown resource land in the province, a total of more than 37 million hectares, primarily located in central and northern Saskatchewan. Crown resource lands are managed to support biodiversity and natural renewable resources. They help to maintain diverse natural resource, social and aesthetic values through maintenance and support of forest ecosystems, a multitude of wildlife species, recreational and wilderness areas. Crown resource lands are made available for various uses through specific land use allocations, development of Crown land policies and programs, land use planning projects and Treaty Land Entitlement claims.

Agricultural land is administered through the Ministry of Agriculture. Although some grazing, haying and cultivation activity does occur on resource or provincial forest land administered by the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for the majority of the land associated with these activities (about 3 million hectares).
