The proper storage of hazardous materials and waste dangerous goods is critical to ensure they do not cause environmental impacts or risk to human health. In order to minimize these risks, regulations are in place to ensure storage facilities are constructed, operated, and decommissioned properly.

Application to Construct or Upgrade and Operate a Storage Facility
Facilities for the handling of hazardous substances or waste dangerous goods require an approval from the Ministry of Environment to construct a new facility, alter, or expand an existing facility. All hazardous substance storage facilities require operating approvals.

Application to Decommission a Storage Facility
Prior to dismantling or decommissioning equipment used for the storage and handling of hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods, owners require an approval from the Ministry of Environment.

Fuel, chemical and waste storage facilities must monitor storage and handling of petroleum products to reduce the potential damage to the environment and our health.
