At a high-level, an individual wishing to become a ministry-designated Qualified Person (QP) should follow these steps:

Step 1: Review the relevant code chapter and determine if the activity you wish to perform falls under the exclusive scope of practice of a profession. If it does, then that profession is the only acceptable qualified person for the job.

Step 2: You must be legally entitled to do the work in Canada.

Step 3: Review your core skills, qualifications, experience and competencies and compare them to those listed in the core skills and competencies document.

Step 4: If after reviewing the criteria and code requirements you are a candidate, fill out the application form to become a ministry-designated QP. The application is to be filled out online.

If you do not already have an individual profile, you will need to create one. Instructions on creating a profile are available here.

This Youtube video will take you through the steps to fill out the qualified person application.
