Idle Free Zone Programs

The Idle Free Zone program facilitates schools, health facilities, municipal offices, community and recreation centres and government offices to encourage staff, clients, and visitors to turn their vehicle engines off when not driving. This simple act saves on fossil fuel usage, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and saves the driver money.

This program is important for the health of our citizens and in the reduction of Saskatchewan's greenhouse gas emissions.

School Program - The Ministries of Education and Environment encourage all schools and education facilities in Saskatchewan to take advantage of the Idle Free Zone program which offers free outdoor signage and resources to schools to use in anti-idling awareness campaigns and programs. The goal is to cut vehicle idling and exhaust emissions especially around youth who because of their age and size are generally more impacted by these toxic fumes than older adults. Recreation and Community Centres - Recreation and community centres, including public libraries are encouraged to take advantage of the Idle Free Zone program which offers free outdoor signage and resources to raise awareness of the impacts of engine idling and encourage drivers to turn their engines off when not in motion.

Municipal Offices - All municipal offices in Saskatchewan are encouraged to take advantage of the Idle Free Zone program which offers free outdoor signage and resources to raise awareness of the impacts of unnecessary idling on the citizens of the community, Saskatchewan and the world. Small actions taken can add up to large impacts that improve everyone's health and the quality of our environment.
